Backup Sensor..how to disable

Hello,

Was wondering if anyone can shed some light on how to disconnect the backup sensor. I realize there is a button on the dash to disable but this only works for one repitition then it's back on. A fellow F-350 V-10 friend asked me as he plows snow and it's driving him nuts. I told him I didn't know but I'm sure somebody here has the answer. Thanks much!

Why disconnect it? As long as the yellow light on the switch says "off," then it's off. Each time you get in the cab, just hit the switch. As long as the truck isn't shut off, the sensing system will remain inoperative. That seems easier to me than disconnecting the whole system.

go under the rear bumper and look at the harness laced across connecting the sensors,, this harness has a plug up in there that can be disconnected,, kinda tucked away but it is up there,,

found this out when I bent the bumper on my 03 and had to replace,,

That may be true on your truck, if it's new enough, but on his it no doubt works like it originally did: the systems rearms itself EVERY SINGLE TIME you switch out of reverse and then back in again. For a plow guy this certainly would drive you insane!

I know on the 6.0 trucks, the latest flashes allow the dealer tech, if he's savvy enough about things, to go in there and change the behavior to the new way. On pre-2003 trucks, or V-10 trucks, I have no idea if this is possible. Back in that era people talked about wiring a switch in series with the actual beeper speaker, which is part of the integrated backup sensor unit somewhere in the passenger footwell area.

Do a search on this forum, there was a service bulleten posted from Ford about how the backup sensor can be reprogrammed to remain disabled once the button is pushed as long as the truck is on.

BTW, on the 05's this is the default behavor.

I just had the reprogram done to my 04 f250, works great when backing in A trailer, push the off button once and it stays off, untill you cycle the key off and on.

They tried to charge me $46.95, but I said NO, as they hadn't informed me of a charge for this when the ticket was written up. They agreed and took the charge off.

Try PMing or Emailing him. The search function for his posts doesn't go back that far.
