Got my letter the other day from Ford,and they say add 1/2 quart more
when changing motor oil.I always put 7 quarts in the engine anyway.I have
a 2000 Excursion V-10.I just wonder why that took 4 years to let me know.
I hope they understand that any engine problem which may arise on my truck
will be paid by Ford.Man they just opened them selfs up for all kinda stuff.
Has any body else been contacted for this .

 

I have got nothing from Ford. The crankcase holds 6 1/2 qts. No idea why Ford would tell you to add more oil. 6 qts brings it half way up the stick and 6 1/2 brings it to the top. Souns crazy to me.

 

Maybe it was a typo in the owner's manual????

 

I always put 6 quarts in it when i first got the truck,like the manual said.Then i
noticed that it never read right on the stick.so i always had to add a quart or so
between oil changes.I started putting in 7 quarts in the engine before i got that letter
and so far never had to add since then.
Don't know what to say about the hole thing.Except i guess use 7 quarts from now
on

 

The dipstick shows that the crankcase has 6 1/2 qts of oil in it when the level is at the top of the hash marks. This does not mean that the crankcase holds 6 1/2 qts of oil. This has been discussed previously. Ford publishes the oil capacity at 6 qts and that puts it slightly above halfway up the hash marked area on my stick. I run 6qts as recommended and realize that the stick is marked the way that it is marked.

Putting more oil in than is required by the manufacturer doesn't equal improved lubrication or provide any other benefit. Although I didn't receive the letter from Ford saying to add another 1/2 qt, I can believe they did so just to make folks feel better about covering the other half of the hash marks on the stick!

 

My work truck has used oil form day one, first quart at 1K and the second at 3K, the dipstick or the factory is off .it uses a quart ever 2K no big deal.

ok here goes i did a search on here for oil consumsion, and this thread i think comes to play on my situation. I go through a quart of oil and a 1/2 gallon of anti-freeze every 900 +/-. I had my truck in the shop for some other issues and told them about it. The service writer say ford 1 quart of oil for 900 miles and they want to monitor the coolant issue. Go figure? My ? is what is the amount of oil consumsion for a 00 v10. when i first got the truck she used to only use 1 quart between oil changes. I find hard to believe 900 miles to a quart is right. Not even working her hard Just going back and forth to work

 

i believe you should get an oil analysis and i think it will show coolant leaking into your engine and burning away with some oil. also, do you use the 5w20 semi synthetic?

 

thanks for the reply someday. I apauligize for the aweful writing and wording on the post. It was a long 18 hour day again. well anyway i tried the synthetic oil but used more than the dino oils. I use the 10w30 in the winter months and 10w40 in the summer months. if i am going through a quart every 900+/- miles just cruizing at 2k rpms with nothing in tow, cant wait to see how much i burn when i pulling my trailer up and down the mountains in the summer. I am getting analazes done on the next oil change(not at ford of course)were i have my big truck done

 

going back over this thread. if you are using a qt every 900 and a half gal. of anti. some thing is wrong someware. is the oil milkie? or clean? any smoke out the tail pipe? do that u.o.l. now and see what it shows. something should be showing as that amount of oil is really to much and the anti is excessive. don't tow with it untill you get to the bottom of whats happening.
