$1200 to install a blade!!!!!!!!!! I sure hope you put a extra 0 on the end of that! You should never pay over $350 to have a blade installed, I would not pay over $300 myself, but I did mine myself, not that big of deal, a couple of hours...
Yep. I have a freind who traded his Dodge truck for a GMC. Western dealer charged him $1,200.00 to install the electrical/new mounting bracket. Things do not come cheap here in Maryland.

I just had my Boss transfered to an 85 Bronco after I traded in my 95 F250. The expensive part is the mounting bracket & wiring harness. I paid $950 for mine but the install labor was only $300. That included adding a set of air bags in the front.
Get a Ford 8N farm tractor with a 6' rear blade. Total cost will be about $2500 and you won't have to tear up your truck. If you have large areas to clear, then the truck mounted plow will be the way to go, but if it's just a long driveway, getcha a tractor. Their pretty fun to operate! I have one at home and I'm going to get another one for my office parking lot. The lot is too small to maneuver a pickup with a plow, but it's too big to shovel by hand.
How are plows on crew cab long bed trucks? Been thinking about a plow, but not too keen about putting one on a truck that is over 21' bumper to bumper already. My work would be mostly driveways and some parking lots. Lots of the rural driveways have long runs off the main road then fairly large areas in front of the house/garage.
There are alot of crew cab duallys running around with blades, only bad part would be short drive ways, it is hard with a reg. cab, a crew would be near imposable. Other then that you are fine. Parking lots and such make no differnce.
It all depends on what you intend to do with it. I have an old Western mounted on my old 78 F250 that I plow my drive & private road with. Works fine. Had to do some welding on it & replaced one hose in the last 20+ yrs. Any name brand plow will last you many years if you only use it for your own driveway and you will not hurt your truck if you only use the plow for that.
I have a Boss V 9'2" on my CC LB SRW and I like it. Not made for small jobs in tight areas But the blade is heavey so it works good for backbladeing. You just have to use alittle more caution. Tim R.
The big thing is whats in your future? Everybody says I'm gonna only do my driveway and maybe the families, then next thing you know you have a couple of gigs. I plow on the side, have a 04 CC SB F250, have plow prep.
Has a bigger alternator, bigger trans/powersteering cooler, X code springs.
My last truck didnt have X code springs, had to run some ballast, depends on the plow weight. Its ALOT CHEAPER to buy a decent HD plow NOW, than upgrade after shelling out 3000+ later. The light duty and personal plows are fine for residential LIGHT DUTY, but they will twist up if your an ape plowing on time/money jobs. Worst case is you buy a set of timbrens, less than 200 installed if you have alot of front end squat. I had a extra plow given to me last year, had to get a mount, control and wiring, got the mount for 225 via ebay, wiring for 190, and control for 175, and installed myself. Western wanted 1100 just for the parts, no install, so used isnt worth it.
If it was me this is what I would do.......
Go to plowsite.com as said earlier, and buy from central parts (on top page) in the off season, April or later. COmes with everything you need, alot cheaper than the local dealer probably. As USUAL, SHOP AROUND. Go to your local place that does that name brand and talk to one of the installers, just go to the install door and start rapping. Get a pro to do it on the side for some cash, and your all set. My neighbor got a new blizzard standard duty for 2100 and had it thrown on for 200 and a case of beer, a really sweet deal. My biggest thing is the old plows take FOREVER to put on usually, new ones are 1 minute or less drive in style, no trying to wrestle with a 600# plow in the cold and pulling and maybe getting a jack out. Some even have automatic hitch options, just set the pins and your gone in 30 seconds or less, but your talking 3500-5000 there. BUT you have resaleabitlty in a better plow, check all the links on top of the aforementioned site and do your homework and ASK now not LATER.............
B.S.^ That is not true! There are so many SD's that you can not get plow prep on, ford wants everybody in reg. cabs plowing, most of the trucks I see are crew cab dually's, dealer never says a word!
I have a 2002 F-250 CC and i have no problems plowing. I use a Meyers setup with a Western Pro-plow modified to fit Meyers. One of the guys i plow with just bought a Blizzard 8 Ft for his SD. It weighs over 900 Lbs. and he just added a leaf to beef up the front end. The blizzard is the best of the best blades out there. It has electrical wings and is heavy enuff to scrape ice off the streets. In my opinion the Blizzard is the best for a 4000 price tag installed. Just my opinion!!
You must not have seen what happens to the Blizzerd when one of the wings catch a curb! Not that good of a plow, it's a rip off of a Boss plow with the wings, made at the same place by the same people, and they rust out in no time flat, just something to think about...
I currently have a Blizzard 8' plow and I am happy (for the most part)with it.I have run a diamond 8' fixed mount with a Hyd. system and I have had a 8'fisher elec over hyd minute mount. The Blizzard when I got it had enough power to push my truck around on snow with the brakes locked. This is great when I get stuck. The blizzard has IMO the strongest A frame out there, look at one. However the biggest downfall to the blizzard is the entire blade trips when you hit something, and it is a pain to mount up because when you disconnect it the light frame remains on the truck so you can use it for guide when you remount the plow. The main reason that I went with the blizzard is because I know the dealer and I paid $3150 installed. You can choose any plow you want, I think they are all made fairly good.I pick my new '05 up tommorow and I had a 9' fisher MM2 installed with the fish stick controller.
