Snow Plow Question...

Ok. I have finally come to the conclusion that I have to buy a plow for my truck. I am through playing around with these #*!@^%# snowblowers! Anyway. I was wondering what people here have and how they like it. If you could give me an idea on what you paid for the plow, that would be great as well.
Thanks in advance!

wait till after the winter to buy one and look for a used plow, unless you plan on making money with it. just remember it is going to sit around for most of the year collecting rust.

In my opinion, Fisher MM2 is the only way to go. I have an 8' MM2 and it takes about 45 seconds to take it off and put it on. Very durable and they last a long, long, long time... You can see mine in my gallery.

Get the best 8 footer you can in your area. I would say fisher or diamond. My diamond MD2 is the best..

I run a Western and a Fisher, I prefer the Fisher for large lots, and the western for residential jobs.

Like the rest have said, don't buy now, wait till spring/summer...way better deals then.

Boss

I like my Boss. $4000 installed 9'2" V Only used it twice. Only takes a minute to hookup. All my other plows where old westerns from the 70s so I really can't compare it to others. Tim R.

I really like the Meyer 8' plow that we bought last year it is very easy to hookup and we use the light bar year round as a bull Bar and to hook chain to pull things out of the mud like (chebby's). It was on a 1999 f-250 last year and this year it is on a 2001 psd scab 4x4 6 speed. Our company mainly does commerial parking lots wharehouses and a few small private roads, and the Meyer has been a champ. I bought it new and paid about $3200 complete with everything all new.

I would agree with Crash687 about looking for a used plow unless you have lots of cash or plan on taking on a few plowing jobs to help cover the cost off a new plow.

thats my $.02

Everyone has their own favorite. You might want to checkout some snow plow sites like http://www.snowplowing-contractors.com or http://www.plowsite.com. There are lots of good information there.

Basically what you will end up hearing the most is the brand of plow you get is up to you but service will be the most important thing. What dealers are close and how to they service the plows they sell.

Anyhow, my favorite is the Boss. I have had a 7.5' TripEdge for 3 years and wouldn't be without it. I like the fact that I can mount and dismount it in 30 secods and when dismounted the lights, pump and everything but the frame bracket is off of my trick. And yes my Boss dealer is very good and is 45 minutes from my house.

7'6" BOSS Super Duty plow. Paid 3200.00 installed. Stick with the plow that you will be able to get parts quick and local. If you buy used you will still have to pay for installation charges, witch could cost 1200.00 plus what you pay for the plow. Unless you can do this yourself. Hope you have the snow plow prep. pkg. when you bought the truck. If not this will result in more costs.

Why would I have to shell out more money if I dont have the plow prep package? Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt the plow package the "x" rated front springs? I am not going to be doing any commercial plowing, I dont see why the std. springs in fron wouldnt suffice. correct me if I am wrong.

They would suffice if you don't mind looking like the Chevys. You would nose dive...

Just not the springs, Heavyduty alternater, transmission cooler. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Plow dealers will not install a lift if the truck is not rated for it.

$1200 to install a blade!!!!!!!!!! I sure hope you put a extra 0 on the end of that! You should never pay over $350 to have a blade installed, I would not pay over $300 myself, but I did mine myself, not that big of deal, a couple of hours...

Maybe he's talking about buying the push plates at $400+ and the isolation module for $250+ too? That's the only thing I can think of. I'm looking at buying an 05 and the plates and module supposedly won't work going from 04 - 05. Any input from anyone? Also, if anyone is interested, $25k for the whole rig minus the headgear. I'll leave the push plates and module on the truck if you need them. This is the first time I've said I'll sell her... Look in my profile/gallery for pics.
