I have a 92 aerostar with the am/fm cassette radio with the digital display. The light bulb has burned out for the third time. the first lasted 10 years this bulb lasted 4 years. I know this may sound silly, but how do you replace this bulb? The manual talks about removing the radio using some kind of tool I don't have. Is there an easy way to get at it from the front. I paid $40 to get it replaced last time and they wouldn't let me watch.
I think the Haynes manual talks about making a tool out of a coat hanger or some heavy wire. My manual is home and I'm not.
I think you bend a piece of wire into a u shape. Two of them. After you get the cover off of the radio, you should find two holes on each side of the radio. I think you plush the wire into the two holes on one side and the same on the other and that releases the radio. Again this if from memory.
Once the radio is out you open it up and you should find the bulb. Change it and put everything back. Anyone with a manual handy to verify this pleas chime in.
In the older vans it was more simple. No special tools. I haven't had to change one in the newer vans.
Once you get the radio out (as per previous instructions), the front panel is easily removeable (I think mine was held on by two small screws). The small bulb is recessed in an opening. I removed mine carefully with a pair of needlenose pliers. Took the bulb to Autozone, matched it and reinstalled everything.
