axel swap

i have a 87 f250 and i just got a dana 44 stright axel for the front and a dana 60 for the back ... do i need to move the purtches or any thing are they mostly bolt up ? thanks

they are out of a 78 f250

The rear should bolt up fine, frames are the same width. Not sure on the front.

ok i am hoping that i dont have to weld up new purtches but if i do its not that big of a deal

your leaf springs are 36 " on center the 78 front end is 32". you will either have to move your hangers in or move your axle perches out. most people who have done this move the hangers in.

A lot of people match the hangers to the axle and do a shackle reversal at the same time. If you can, have a look under a 78 f250 or 350. The shackle is at the rear of the spring while your 87 has it on the front of the spring. The shackle at the rear makes for a better ride and you get a couple of inches of lift too.

well i went there and there is not to much on how to do it i gess i will just have to pull it all part and find a way hmm time to start cuting and welding i gess ........ i dont want to that to much but i gess its the only way

An easier way would be to find a dana 60 front from an 86 or newer F-350. It's pretty much bolt in.

well i have the 44 siting here i think i am just going to get new purtchs and weld them on and see how that works out i think it will be just fine
