I have a 78 F150 4x4 351m C6. The engine is tired and I would like to swap in a rebuilt 300-6 and keep the automatic. The transfer case is a chain drive New Process ###.
My question: What range of year C6 will bolt up to my transfer case??
For example, will a late '80's or '90's small block C6 transmission bolt up to my 1978 transfer case?
Thanks, John
Any c6 case will work, if it has the right bell housing bolt patern. Just put your tail shaft and tail shaft housing into it. You have to take the trans completely apart to put the rear shaft in. Make sure the trans has the bolt provisions for the neutral/reverse switch. (you will need for a '78) some cases don't have them.
Why not put in a rebuilt 351M or 400M in the truck? Their strong and smooth runners. The 400M with its 4 inch stroke is a real torque monster. Then you can use your same tranny, transfer case, engine mounts, engine brackets, etc.
