ABS light on all the time. Took to shop (not dealer) who reported the code suggested the ABS computer is bad. I've read posts suggesting ABS light often caused by bad rear wheel sensor. Should I attempt computer replacement? It's expensive ($800 at dealer) and I'm not sure I can do it myself. Any input is welcome. Thanks.

I had a bad solder on the ABS module that made my light go on. You may want to take it to a dealer and see what they charge for that. Might be better than bucking up $800.
I have a sensor for the rearend that I bought but it turned to not be the problem. You can pull yours and do a continuity test to see if the sensor is bad.
Good luck! Otherwise you can drive around without ABS brakes...that's not really the end of the world.
If the light turns on and stays on when you start the vehicle then you may have a problem with the abs module. The act of turning on the vehicle causes a diag to run
on the abs module. The light should turn off after the test is done indicating that the self test pass. It is does no then the module could be bad.
The sensor problem will not keep the light on but will make the light come on after you
drive down the road a little. The light will then stay on.
I have a similar problem in my 98 XLT w/ 115K. The ABS light comes on and stays on (it does blink off very quickly one time when starting but that is it). I replaced my rear sensor, which was not the problem. I have not taken it to the stealer yet, and was not able to pull any code with either my cheap scanner or at auto zone, so I have been driving around with the light on for over 6 months. I also checked the fuses, but no luck there. If you find the problem, let me know. I didn't fork out the $100+ for each of the two front speed sensors yet, but the forums seem to indicate that the abs control module could be the problem.
