Powerstroke 6.0 ABS light problems
Recently I had my F250 4x4 lifted and upsized the tires to 35". After the shop lifted the vehicle I had no problems. About a week later I purchased and installed a superlift True speed calibrater. Used a GPS to dial it in and installed it according to MFR's directions. It works great, but since I installed it the ABS light has been on in the dash and I can't get it to go out. I read the posts related to this issue and replaced the abs sensor in the rear diff. and it made no difference. I can confirm the ABS does not work and wheels will lock up during hard breaking.
I am wondering if during installation when ABS computer was unplugged and or when batteries were disconnected it may have tripped something in the ABS computer to warrent a trouble light. I contacted the Ford dealer to ask if they could check it out for me and he said that it wouldn't be under warrenty if something was damaged from the lift or installation of the superlift device. I checked all my wiring over and I suspect the ABS just needs reset. The dealer says it will cost $160.00 for them to check the ABS systenm and if there is a problem then I will have to pay more accordingly. If there is no problem with the ABS and all they have to do is reset the computer, then they will do so and the light will go out and the ABS will function properly once again . Then I am out $160.00 and all they did is reset the system. I hate to pay all that cash for a tech to just reset the system.
Is there any way I can reset ther ABS system and save the $$$? I figure the code once cleared from the system will turn the light out and if in fact there is a actual problem with the ABS then the light would return. At that point I will take it in for repairs.
I have the Predator Diablo programmer and I have hooked it up to see if it could read the trouble code for the ABS light, but it has not detected any codes, therefore I cannot clear them. Maybe somebody out there has a solution or can tell me how to reset the ABS computer? I would appresiate any assistance. Thanks, Richard
