i wanna get new shocks for my 82 F15o 4x4, if i get heavy duty shocks, will it give it any lift? I would like the truck to be a little higher, and want to know if the shocks would have any affect. if so, what do you reccomend?
Shocks shouldn't affect the height of the truck, and shouldn't be used to lift the truck. Those mounts weren't designed to carry weight. you can up the rear a little with overload springs, but not the front.
The easiest way to get 2" out of the front is to get a set of "leveling coils" from any major off road manufactuer, they run about $150 a pair and don't require any drop pivot brackets or radius arm brakets. However, you can do the same thing by going to your local salvage yard and get a set of front coils out of any early 80's ford CARGO VAN, make sure it is a cargo and you will get about an inch and a half lift and about 200lbs heavier spring
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Nov-02 AT 01:07 PM (EST)]Hi,
there is a 2" Bodylift for $70 available at JCWhitney. It' easy to install in 'bout 6-8 hours but is not the best way to lift the truck.
I had mounted it in my '85 F-250 2wd to give clearence for the 33 tires.
A friend of mine added some F350 coil springs and realligned his 2wd front end, he got 2.5" from it although now he has to pick up his teeth from the floorboard after hitting the railroad tracks! rough ride, no doubt!
