Qeustion about 4-speeds

I have a 4-speed in my truck and when I let off the gas the transmission makes kind of a grinding noise. My dad said this is normal for all of the old trucks but I kind of don't beleive him. I just want to know if something is wrong or is he right.

Make darn sure it's your tranny first and not rear end backlash noise. Noise from the rear can easily be transmitted up front through the driveshaft.
