I have a 97 7.3 and it seems to build boost slowly in 1st gear. Sometimes only 5#. In 2nd, drive and overdrive I reach 15#, but it takes the entire gear. Sometimes when its cold it takes an excessive amount of time going thru the gears, and when warm boost comes on very strong in all gears. Is this normal?
You just described my 02 350 to the T. I just did the 10K mod, it is surprisingly quicker from a stop. BUT, I still have questions about durability right now, I just did a post 5 min. ago, check it out.
You really only build boost under load. If the truck is'nt working(creating heat) boost will be low. Such as when in low gears. But in higher gears the truck works more to maintain speed or acellerate and creates heat which creates boost. Fuel=heat=boost

Did this problem just start or has this been going on for a while. If it only does it when it is cold outside it may be your EBPV being closed causing your low boost.
winter fuel dosnt help either, not as much power in winter fuel makes it lag a little more also. big exaust and intake and hot chip and some swamp babies will make that boost gauge jump good
it mainly does it when the engine is cool. After coming to a stop from a trip on the freeway acceleration is very good but can very quickly go back to no or low boost. Kind of sporactic. I pulled the rod off the waistgate to make sure it was free and it was, and thats all I have done. It has done this since I got the truck 3months ago. Thanks for the input.
The 97's didn't have a wastegate, that was our EBPV that you disconnected, which would lead me to think that was why it would boost slow when cold, but since you disconected it that eliminates that.
Do you still have the stock exhaust system, specificly the cat??? The cat is such a restrictive part of the exhaust, removing that will allow better exhaust flow which will result in higher boost at lower rpm's, and it will realy rev faster when you lay into it. at least thats what I noticed, I dont know for sure what it will boost in first, but will hit 16 in second and 20 at the end of third. a better intake system will help too.
The slow shifts, I assume happen when the truck is stone cold???? is that right. The converter will not lock until the engine is up to a certain temp, this could be what you are feeling, it does seem like it shifts slow when th econverter isnt locked.
No I do not have stock exhaust, 3 1/2 inch straight pipe out the rear. K&N air filter, everything else is stock, no chip, nothing. I installed a boost gauge last week and I don't climb over 16#. It does seem like all of my problems are related to engine temp. maybe I am looking for power I dont have. I appreciate any and all responses....thanks
I reconnected EBPV in the same sitting. I went for a drive yesterday and was able to show my financial advisor (ol' lady) the issue, From a dead stop,Full throttle the truck cant get out of its own way with boost reaching only 5#. Next time, the truck sits you back in your seat with boost going to 15# before shifting to 2nd. I will chip it but I need to make sure I dont have problems a chip wont fix first. Thanks again
I unhooked the intake pressure line and had only 3 or 4# all the time. I didnt unhook the three wires where the pressure line goes. Is that what to unplug or do I unplug the cylinoid atached the EBPV?
