7.3 Surging, Please Help

I own a 02 F 350 7.3 with 55k miles. It started surging/bucking a little @ 51k and I have changed the fuel filter twice thinking it was water with no luck. I also drain the fuel bowl every few days with no luck. I seems to be getting worse. I only notice it at 30-55 mph when holding constant speed or when the c/c is on...Any help??? Any ideas????

Best thing to do is to get it scanned for codes. That aside, sounds a lot like a TPS. (Throttle Position Sensor). Basically your pedal assembly as a unit. It's self contained and must be replaced as a whole unit, from what I hear.

[B]Can it be scanned if the check engine light has not tripped on? Do Diesels even have check engine lights? Thanks

Yes it can be scanned. A lot of codes can be stored without turning on the "service engine soon" light. It comes on every time you start the truck for a few seconds to let you know that it works then goes out if everything is good enough to run. But there are many times that things can go marginally wrong that are enough to trip an error code without turning on the light. Or it will come on for a few seconds and then go right out again. But the code will remain.
It's pretty amazing how much can be stored in the computers these days. The carmakers try and conceal as much as they can from the average owner. I think thier logic is that they don't want to be inundated with service calls: "Whats this light and what does it mean?" But the mechanics have access with the scanner. If there is a problem then the scan points them in the right direction. We'd be lost with them. Too much computer control to do so otherwise.

Good grief, where'd all that come from???
