I appreciate everyone's input. It's given me lots of food for thought. I'm getting the truck back home on Friday, and I'm taking it to my trusted techs in Spokane. I'll keep everyone abreast of what happens. In the meantime...thanks to all who responded. It means a lot to me.
Marty
Good move bringing it home for another opinion drivinfool (Marty). I am anxious to hear how it turns out. Good for you I hope.
BTW, I live in the Houston area but Spokane is the home town for my truck. I flew up there the week of Thanksgiving to buy it (2003 with 24,700 miles) and drove it back here. Beautiful place up there. I especially found Lake Coeur d'Alene in Idaho to be quite a site. Trip was definitely worth it. Love the truck and found another area of the country I want to spend time in.
GUESS WHAT...IT DIDN'T NEED A NEW ENGINE AFTER ALL. Imagine that!!!
After dinkin around for the past three weeks...turns out the injector pump had gone out (besides the other parts I listed previously). I've had it with my '03. Traded in yesterday on a new 2005 Dodge. I'll really miss my Ford. It was the most comfortable truck I've ever driven, but I won't miss the repair bills. I do however, want to thank each and every one of you who have responded to this post, and others of mine. It meant a great deal to me.
I hope you dont have to replace your tranny every 10,000 miles on that new dodge... gotta like the cummins but, everything else is gonna break, especially haulin alot like you do.. What did you get for your tradein dollar wise? Better be savin for that next ford, your gonna need it.
Maybe I missed something and it is quite possible that I did. The thread is getting long and it has been a couple of days since I read it fom the beginning but: the onyl know problem with the enigne is that it has low fuel pressure. If this is correct, it seems that there is a big rush to judgement in deciding to replace the engine or tear it down. Can't we somehow troubleshoot the fuel system first and verify that it works, then check compression, ...
Told ya so . Too bad we are losing you to Daimler but do wish you well.
