7.3l diesel in my 90 Bronco

Would it be possible to fit a Ford 7.3l diesel in my 90 Bronco? Would it bolt to my AOD trans and could it handle the power? Could I find motor mounts to work? I know it would require alot of wiring change over and fuel line, pump and tank swap, but would the 7.3 fit? I've seen the Cummins 5.9l swap but I don't $12,000 + it takes to do it. Any help please.......

Yes it will fit.
No it will not bolt up to your AOD.
The axles would'nt hold up to well to the power, and the front suspension would be over whelmed by the weight.
That all being said there ways around these problems.

Thanks for the help. I really want to get a diesel in my truck. My wife drives a diesel Mercedes and I want to switch over to bio-diesel. Looks like it's back to the drawing board and time to do some research.

Search, search, search and a lot of RE-search. Should have put this one in the FAQ's. It comes up often enough.

Ford may come out with a smaller (V6) diesel in a not too distant future that would be a lot more suitable than a 7.3l monster.

Would a 6.0 be easier than a 7.3? It does weigh about 300 lbs less. I would need the trans it bolts to or would it mate up to an AOD or an E4OD?

Get a donor truck and swap the engine and tranny as one unit -- that way, the only major thing that need to be done is driveshaft shortening. You also get everything you need.

I also spent some time thinking about a diesel swap before, anf concluded that it doesn't make any sense for me. High initial cost and lots of work for some small savings in fuel cost. Of course, if you can get biodiesel for very cheap, that makes it a very different deal. However, you still get a very front heavy car afterwards with a very sucky handling.

I'm putting a biodiesel production setup in my garage this summer for my wifes car. She's giving me a hard time about my gas guzzler and I'm NOT getting rid of my Bronco. Converting it to diesel is what I've wanted for a while. There is a place in Montana that will put a new Cummins 5.9l setup in for $12K+ but I don't have that much saved up yet. Maybe this winter or next spring. We'll see.

1888 bronco eddie bauer 5.0l auto

after researching the subject myself, I have a donor f350 6.9l automatic for 400.00 cdn it as hade a cab fire, I intend to find a body from a 1996 bronco to install on the shorten f350 frame this will take care of suspension problem as well as most electrical and fuel feed problems and since the 6.9l is totally mechanical no electronics it will simplify the process.

http://www.fordcummins.com/

They sell the kits to do this also. That would be a cheaper way to go if you can find the parts locally.

I'll keep posting any progress I make. Say, anybody know the weight difference between a 6.0 and a gas 5.0?
