Tim yes the lights come on with the dome light and act the same.

TIM: I got that from a '04 manual, but it may be the same on your '05.

On 2005 SD black/blue stripe in harness to the right of the steering column is dome light.

It doesn't give a location. I figured it would be behind the driver's kick panel or running along the driver's lower sill.

so how about an '03 250? is it the black wire with light blue tracer?
also here is another twist
can i hook up to this wire(if it is the correct one) so the lights come on with the interior but also hook up so the running board lights come on with the parking lights?

The answer to all of your questions. I have 20 years experience as a certified installer of alarms, remote starts, etc. The wire you guys are looking for is black/lightblue trace. I have found it in two places on model years 2002-2005 depending on cab configuration and trim level. On the crewcabs and Lariat supercabs, the wire can be found about half way back in the driversdoor sillplate. It is in a small harness that comes from the rear of the cab and curves in under the driver's seat. On the XLT supercab 2005, I found the wire right in the drivers kick panel. Hope this information was helpfull.

P.S. I would use a relay!!!!!!!!!!
