running board light/wiring hookup
04 F-350 6.0 Crew 4x4 DRW, Hey you schematic gurus, HAPPY NEW YEAR ! Installed my running boards(YAYYY 4x4 CHRISTMAS !) , ran the wires for courtesy lights that are supposed to go on & off with dome lights, and cannot find the correct hot connection. I found the dome light fuse disguised as instrument cluster, but the dome lights are on a timer delay so they stay on after shut down. The fuse stays hot all the time so the running board lights do not go off after timer shuts down. Can somebody give me specific (wire color/location) directions as to where this timer is so I can tap into it? THANKS !!

if the wire code hasn't changed from 02 ,you need to find the blk/ with light blue tracer wire going to the entry door light.That is the wire that is tied into the Batt saver/interior light relays that shuts of after 10 sec.

Thanks for the comeback Rich, but the wire code did change. The directions in the box were for 98 thru 02 trucks and I looked for that exact wire and it doesn't exist in my 04........ I'm thinking it's time to bite the bullet and buy the 4 Manuals I need to work on this machine. Just can't get the dough to spend.

It looks like that didn't work. Go onto Ebay and do a search for the sellers named lorieandjeff--all 1 word. They always have factory Ford manuals up for auction.

the dome light is also a black/light blue wire in my truck. i tapped into it in the drivers side kick panel (to the left of the emergency brake) pull of that panel and theres some wires run behind there and it was in that bunch.

The wiring has changed; there is no black blue on the right side but it is there and easy to access on the drivers side kick panel. 2005 f250 4x4.

I tried to find the dome light wire in my '04 in the driver side kick panel harness which is supposed to be BLACK/LIGHT BLUE and I could not find it. Either they changed the wire color and have not updated the online diagrams, or they failed to put the light blue stripe on the black wire that IS in the bundle. What I did not do at the time was to try to find a wire that was only hot when the dome light was on. I ran out of time and just haven't gotten back to it.
I hope somebody is able to shed light on this subject....

It took me a bit of digging to find it, it is black with a lite blue tracer and runs down the drivers side under the plastic kick panel. I tied directly into it without a relay, I put a 5 amp inline fuse in, figured with all the lights Ford has deleted it should take it. Good Luck.

Tim Lamkin, We're all tryin' to find a wire for the lights that will go on & off with the dome lights....may not work for running board lights unless you're trying to hook up the coutesy lights on the King Ranch style running boards..Larry Hey, you're not in Tennesee are you?

Ernie so the running board lights do come on when you hit the remote unlock button...
Dieselman...I am using the boards with lights (black) form an 03 excursion...they fit good just 7 inches longer. Same mount and all...
