hmmm...nine lugs and brake cleaner, you're on a role!
Spraying carb cleaner around will rev the engine momnetarily if it gets sucked into a leak.
My bet is on the crimped tube at the bottom of the EGR. I removed that entire tube and fitting, and shoved a small expandable rubber freeze plug in it.
i am running a 68 Carter YF on my 65 f-100 with 79 300ci engine & it has performed well. I previously had a 1100 carb which was bad for spitting gas out where the plastic rod is upon startup. It also had the problems with vapor lock & would run at times about a block & stall. Don't know how many times i pulled into traffic & had the thing stall. Worse carb i ever had. The YF has gotten better mpg & ran flawlessly for 15 years.
gdivens51 -- yeller! A yellow 300! What matters of course it that it runs. Was that an industrial 300 or something?
I see you got the correct choke bracket on the Carter. That is the problem for lots of us -- the remaned manual choke carter YF carbs can be found on ebay frequently, but they seen to never have the correct bracket for the choke cable.
Your riser is an interesting rig. There is an aircleaner from MR. Gasket that will fit a YF without such efforts, though it does have a narrow peice of plastic, which bothers lots of folks, me included. I post this not to criticise your setup but as an FYI for others, should they not have access to a ring compressor!!
the color i started out with is Cummins Diesel Gold which looked good until i had to finish up with the pukey yellow. The engine is a stock bored .030 over 79 engine. Next time i need to paint it , i'm thinking of Chevy orange. I just don't like the looks of blue engines.
the choke bracket i bought at a small town Ford dealer for $2. The parts man spent 45 minutes looking in catalogs to track it down. I had no idea what it looked like & very much appreciated the service. I had previously went to a big town Ford dealer & they wouldn't even take the time to look at the catalog or shelf, just told me they didn't have any.
