I have a stock 1984 F-150 short bed 4x4 with a 351 HO. What is the factory HP rating on it? It's not a daily driver, but what sort of gas mileage should I expect. It LOVES gas.
Mine was getting between 8 and 9 mpg when I got it. After tuning it, it's around 10-11 in town, and got a shade over 13 on the highway. Mine's a 4bbl, and the carb could use a little tuning. I'm glad I don't have to drive it every day.
RPOZ-29 Your 4bbl is most likely a 4180 Holley they are a fuel economy carb.,but being built before 1992 they blow power valves unless a Centrex Anti-Blow device has been installed. They are available through Centrex direct on-line for I think $12, also floats get heavy after several years. 4180 has alot of good stuff like two sage power valves, for fuel economy, air/fuel mixture screws are located in the base plate and are sealed, but can be drilled out. A draw back is rebuild kits are expensive $90, to find one you need the Motorcraft #, on air horn. I know you didn't ask for this info and you may already have this info but, maybe someone can use it.
ya'll think 10-13 w/ a 351 is bad, drive my truck for a month....84 f-150 4x4 300-6 t-18 4 spd....avg monthly fuel usage....200 bucks....roughly 8-9 mpg....lol...i may as well swap in a 460 and triple my power output...
