I just put new carb on, and now it wont pop.
I checked the control module, timing, compression, coil, and did tune up.
turns over all day, but is not popping.
I want my truck back, help.
Any ideas as to why it wont pop? thanks
by the way, it did pop before I put the carb on, and yes, it appears to be getting gas.

What carb did you throw on? I put on a motorcraft 400 cfm, with an offy DP intake and EFI headers. All of which was done at once....the rig seems to pump fuel profusely at the start...in the summer you could just smell gas for about 5 seconds, until it warmed up...but in the winter it likes to flood itself because its colder outside and harder to start. So check for flooding...make sure its not drowning itself before it wants to roll over....seems like my motorcraft setup has gained me about 7 more mpg and quite a bit of power on the low end...maybe be the nature of the carb to have less fuel during start up.
Did you do anything else besides the carb swap? Like ; change the timing, change to a new fuel cap, new fuel filter, verify that the fuel line is clear?
I believe you are on to something with the flooding. I threw a carter by motorcraft champion rebuild on (117.00$).
I just noticed an apparatus bolted the engine, it is metal, about 5 inches long, and octoganal, or hexagonal in shape, it points to the firewall coming from about six inches below and on the back side of the carb on the passenger side of truck. It has a hose connected to the distributor attached to it, and another hose, im not sure where it goes, but there are two fittings below these two hoses that didnt have anything connected to them, so there was (air,ie. exhaust?) coming out of them. I plugged them up when i put the new carb in. I took them off a little while ago to see if they would make a difference, and a couple drops of gas came out. huh?
By the way, I finally got it to pop a couple times by holding throttle open, and choke plate. What is the deal? Im not sure the carb specifics, but it appears to be the twin of the original. thanks
the compression test i originally took was with gassey oil, and cold engine. the second test was after oil change and new carb.
first test showed 5 cylinders were at 110, and number 4 cylinder at 135psi.
second test showed 5 cylinders at 125, and number 4cylinder at 150-175psi.
this would be indicating?
