Been looking at attending ITT. My dad owns a company that specializes in predictive maintenance for turbo machinery. Right now we have a few of us working in the shop, no one is really on a school program that benifits the company, I have been taking my basics and now I think its time to go on and get my Electronics Technology degree from ITT. Has anyone attended ITT, need some advice or opinions on that school. Thanks
I went to Ivy tech but I guy I work with went there and I think its a good education the problem here is that they are not acredited so for him to get a 4yr degree he has to start over at Ivy tech.
I went to ITT Tech and received my bachelors degree in Electronic Engineering. It took me 3 years to get that degree and a whole lot of money. For the 3 years, I paid a little over $50,000.
I will give you this bit of information, at least this is what happened at the campus I went to. When I went to school there, I went for 4 hours 5 days a week. We were able to cover a lot of material and we had time that if we needed to ask questions, we could. The instructors were able to explain everyting in detail and we were able to get alot farther in the books and actually learn.
While I was still attending, they changed the program and dropped the number of hours down from 20 hours a week to 15 hours. then they also went from 5 days down to 3 days. When they did that, the students had to be in class every single time or they would miss really important stuff because the instructor did not have time to reexplain anything. If anyone was not able to learn something, they were pretty much screwed and had to get alot of outside help form other students and tutors. Then I believe, they dropped down to 1 day a week. We just had a guy start on my job, that just graduated and he was only going 1 day a week. He said if you missed one day, or was even late, you were pretty much screwed and would have a real hard time catching up with everyone else.
In my opinion, the school has went downhill and is nothing like what it was when I had attended. I would still check it out because you my have a work schedule that may not allow you to attend at other times and you may be able to learn everything. All I can tell you is to go ahead and check it out.
Oh btw, ITT Tech is an accredited school, but it is a different kind of accreditation. The only bad thing is that they do not easily transfer credits from or to other schools. So if you go there for an associates degree at ITT with intent to go somewhere else for a Bachelors degree, you more than likely won't be able to.

Paul, how long ago did you attend ITT, and was it in Jax? My brother was an instructor there after he retired from the Navy, and my nephew also went there. This must have been around 1988 or so.
Nope, I was looking at ITT back in '00, they are very expensive, the class sizes are small, and the professors have to cram so much into one class it's almost impossible to learn. The accredidation is not a nationwide one, so it's only good in a small area of the state close to the school as well.
I went and talked to them the other day, they said i might be going to class from 6-11pm tuesday and thursday, and 9-2pm on saturday. but it might change when they get my transcripts from my other schools. i think the only thing that will be bad for me is work from 8-5pm then go straight to class till 11. My dad owns the company so i can leave a little early, but usually i am all worn out after i get off work. i am also checking out devry university. I am heading up there tomarrow to check it out, but thats an even farther drive to get there, especially since its in houston and i will have to drive through the traffic. happy new year yall.

Hey rikfish, I attended ITT from June of 2000 through September of 2003, and yes it was in Jacksonville(It's the only place I have ever lived). Who is you brother, I might have had him or heard of him.
Steer clear of Devry, I attended and got screwed. The didn't like the fact I had a GED, so they dropped me. Never mind that I scored high on the GED test.... The just didn't like it...

Why not look into getting a BS in Electrical Engineering instead??? I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that a Engineering degree would be by far more valuable.
I hate to say this, but if you are going to spend $50K on a education, that same money will go further in a Engineering degree.
Not to mention you could pickup some valuable buisness and mangement classes that could really help out in the short term, and if your dad were to ever pass the company on too you.
I have a friend that went to ITT in Virginia and got a degree there in electronics. After he got out he got a job working for the local cable company as an installer and that is where he still is after 8 years. I really think that he could have gotten that job without going to ITT and he feels the same way and says that it was a waste of time and money for him. He told me that he learned more in high school in his Vo-tech classes.
superrangerman2002, i thought about that, it was my original plan, but my dad wants me to stay here and work while i attend, doesn't want to spend the time and money training someone on what i do, just to get rid of them when i get back. but after i finish ITT i am planning to go get my bachelors, i already have all my basics, so a few more classes after ITT and I should be done. Hopefully
That is IF your classes credits will transfer to another school. That is the problem that some of the students at the ITT in Fort Wayne, IN had. They went to ITT to get their AS, but when they started to look for schools that would accept the technical credits they couldn't find any.
