Well, it is getting close.
On August 13th, at 0645 in the morning is my last day of work.
On August 19th, sometime in late afternoon, I turn in my military ID.
I have 8 work days left in my military career, the only life I have known since highschool .....yeah yeah yeah..only 4 years. :P
On August 20th, I will be unemployed, and will not have a guaranteed pay-check ever again. This is coming up quick I must say, alot quicker then I would have though, each day goes by in the blink of an eye and there is so much left to do before I can leave. I need to find a job ASAP back home near Baton Rouge, and I start school up some time in the middle of September at La Tech in North Lousiana.
Just a bit nervous about what is going to happen, I will have vehicles spread out between 2 states, mustang in its current storage in Arkansas, the 91 and 89 in my gal's Dad's back 40, and the 02 with me. Will have to find a way to pay bills while going to school full time, ahhh...I dont know just really nervous I guess. Not anyhting the rest of the x-military guys have felt when leaving the service...
time really flies when your working 12s and dont have any time for yourself....I have 2 weeks......2 weeks....it does not seem like but a few months ago I was still working the line (got off the line winter 02) oh well...
Thank you for your service and best of luck at LA tech. Not to get this post closed or anything but dont worry, god helps those that help themselves. Going to college is definintly helping yourself. What branch are you in?
I remember those days too, they were a long time ago, 1987 for me. Good luck finding a job when you get home and thanks for serving and keeping the wolf away from the door.
I know what ya mean about time coming up quick. There are some options available to you that they might not have told you about. You're entitled to 6 months of unemployment after you get out of the military. So, if worse comes to worse, take it...you paid for it. You can also do a DITY (do it yourself) move and make some bucks off of that. Talk to the older guys you work around, I'm sure they can point you in the right direction on how to make it easier. It's a headache when you first get out, I know it damn sure was for me, but it gets better with time.
