Hi folks,
does anyone know what is involved in lowering a 4x2?
I wonder about the twin I beam and how it will change the camber. Is the spindle one piece with the axle or does it bolt on? (Can I find drop spindles?)
I am not thinking about anything drastic below stock.
Thanks,
Jay in Reno
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jan-03 AT 10:57 PM (EST)]I don't know about that one. I have an 86 f-150 4x2 302 w aod and I just put on a 6 inch lift with 33inch mud tires and i had to take my truck to a speciality shop and get my I beams bent only cost about 200 bucks but lowering i don't know. good luck
Raising or lowering a twin-I-beam gives you the same camber problems, just in opposite directions. I think they make new lowering I beams don't they? But of course they probably are expensive.
lowering you f150 also, same here the i beams and spindles are two differant peices.DJM suspension offers lowering i beams called dream beams.the i beams and spindles on your truck are held in place by ball joints.if you need any more help drop me a line. :-staun
Heres what you do. You get 2 inch lower springs for the front, shackles and hangers for the rear and the approtiate size shock. Then you get a set of camber bolts from skyjacker (i think thats who makes em) those camber bolts take care of any camber problems i believe. Then install everything and your ready to go. I am in the process of lowering my truck(below) but i don't have the camber bolts so i'm not sure how they work but i know that they are out there.

Thanks Cody,
Two inches will probably do it.
If I could find a car to haul 4x8 plywood I might buy one. Too bad all the old wagons got crushed. Even so they are too small. Sure a high truck looks tough to some, but I don't need the clearance for road use. Mine's an f 150 and if I ever haul 1/2 a ton it is a rare day.

Ditto to what Jay said. To each his/her own...thats what makes America great. The freedom to choose what works best for us, and to ask questions freely.
Don't think I would like to see my panel lifted HIGH, and as a matter of fact, I DO have a car.
BTW,everyone, thanks for the info and input on this thread, and the one I asked, it has helped answer alot of questions!!!

Do you know anyone that makes lowering kits like the dream beams from djm? and have you seen any lowering spring kits? I like the look of the 3/5 djm drop but i think a little more would look a bit better any ideas?
I just lowered mine with a set of DJM beams. The stock ball joint has some adjustment and mine rides fine. You can get new hangers and shackles for this year for a bolt on drop of 4". I just took my springs to a spring shop and they re-arched them for a 3" drop and then put on shackles for a total of 4". You can get a good price for the beams at thecustomconnectiononline.com . I haven't found a place that makes springs for our year truck. I was considering cutting my spring but each end has a taper, maybe just take a little off each end? good topic!
