  1. Dunno. Show us a pic?
  2. Very few people do.
  3. Good to do, and if you need an alternator it may be time to pull a 3G from the salvage.

If it has 2 push on plugs, it is a G2

I believe it does have 2-plugs (I'll have to confirm). My case is cracked, but it works. What's the pros to upgrading to a 3g or should I just stick w/the 2g??

If you have a 2G you have the worst of the three as the 2 has caused many fires. But if you make sure your connections are good you should be ok.

The 3G has much better connections, doesn't need the external regulator, and in some forms puts out more current at idle than the 1G that I have does at full tilt. But you have to be able to handle some rewiring to convert.

If I were trying to find out what I have, for sure, I would post a picture. It is easy to sit here and say "Yeah, sure it must be a 1G". But when you buy the wrong one you aren't going to be happy.

I don't know. 1G's don't have plugs. They have ring-tongue connectors that go over studs. Do you see why I cannot tell you without a picture?

That is a 1G. It is a good, solid design that works well but doesn't throw a lot of power. If you don't have any add-ons that use a lot of current, like a winch or electric cooling fans, you should be fine just replacing it.

Like I said, my alt works just fine, but the case is cracked pretty good (I didn't do it). So, I figured it might be a good idea to just replace it. It appears to be the stock alt. I dont have any add ons and might only install a pretty simple radio at some point.

They I would go back with a rebuilt 1G. It will be a lot easier and should provide all the power you need.

You happen to know what the power output for a 1G is?

Theres a guy down here that we use at work for rebuilding and buffing up alternators and we've had him take stock 60 amp alternators and punch them out to 95 to 100 amps while maintaining stock hook ups.

This is an option if you want to maintain your orignal hook up but want more output.
