I usually make it a point to plug mine in much below 40 degrees.
As to starting and running poorly after visiting Mr. Dealer, I would assume they flashed it and buggered the computer. Apparently lots of dealers just flash them whenever they see a 6.0. My advice on the matter is to leave well enough alone if it's running OK. Perhaps they thought the flash would fix the cold-start condition. My vote is for glow plugs, particularly if it idles a lot, which might carbon them up.
They are supposed to put a battery charger on when doing the flash. Any voltage fluctuation will bugger up the flash. You have to turn on and off the ignition when doing the flash. The glow plugs eat up a little juice. You might take it back and have them reflash this time with a charger hooked up.
Temperature here in BC warmed up over the last few weeks but now its hovering around 0 deg C so I brought it in to FORD to see what they could find. They did 4 hours of computer diagnostic work and thought it may be the injectors. So they did another 4 hours of diagnostics on it and I was told 6 of the 8 injectors and not working properly until they are warm. This sounds strange to me but the parts are ordered and the truck will be back there Monday AM. I feel if 6 of 8 are not working I sure hope they just do all 8 because I'm sure they can’t be in all that good of shape. What do you think?
We had a string of 0 to 8 deg mornings for almost 2 weeks. I start my '05 with remote starter and haven't had any problems. Every now and then it would smoke a lot at first though. I saw that someone said once that theirs sounded like a bunch of toasters in a drier. That was pretty much what it sounded like.
Well I have the remote starter thing too but....... Before I get mine to sound like a "bunch or toasters in a dryer" hahaha it takes me about 10 times of me starting it and it running on what it sounds like 2 cylinders for 5 seconds then dieing.
