91 e 350 When cold this truck starts, runs about ten secs. stalls , then will not start. I have changed glow plugs, injectors, o-rings, fuel filter, lift pump, part of return line, the kitchen sink. It is ****ing me off. It only happens when it is cold, & it is a van so you have to take dog house off, rip your arms up to remove air cleaner, shoot with ether to start. Mean while your hands are frozen and I start the day ****ed. Brought to several mechanics, spent mucho $$$, still ****ed. ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRIECIATED
i'd start looking at the ip real close or a loose line will cause the same problem if it's sucking a small amount of air when the engine isn't running i know my one 91 f250 if i let it sit for more than 24 hours i might as well prime the fuel filter still havn't found the offending line and i've been chasing it for 2 months open the schrader valve on the fuel filter next time it does it and have someone crank the engine over see if you have fuel there
Go to this web page............ http://www.intellidog.com/dieselmann/idi2.htm cut and paste the address to another explorer. Look for air leaks on the filter, also check all steel line connections filter inlet, outlet and IP inlet. Clamp off the line from filter to #1 injector temporarily or replace it with a loop of clear hose to see air intrusion/outflow..
try parking the truck with the nose down. that may tell you the fuel is running back to the tank and with the nose down, it wont do it so bad. also you have a bad pickup tube in the tank. try to feel beneath the injection pump at the mounting bezel. there is a weep hole in the neck of the pump a;nd fuel will run out there if the seals are going out. i know its a van and in one heck of a place to get to, but it may help you out. also, if the fuel is leaking there, you will see dampness on the valley pan and smell fuel.
same as mine just A thought \ wonder if the extreme cold temps are causing a seal or line to schrink just enough to let it suck a small amount of air in hmmm
