It outlines some of the rules and regulations telemarketers must follow, how you may be able to sue them if they break these rules, mailing lists, and other useful information.
The site also talks about junk email and all those annoying "pre-approved" credit card offers that I sometimes get.
I don't ever want to talk to another telemarketer. So we almost never answer our phone unless the caller leaves a message. Seems like 9 out of 10 calls hang up instead of leaving a message. Hmmmm. Guess it wasn't that important after all. It's great, we keep the ringer on very low--often don't hear it at all--and when it rings, nobody jumps, we just keep doing what we're doing.

My phone company has a service is called Anonymous Call Rejection. It allows you to reject calls from callers who have blocked the display of their telephone numbers from a Caller ID device. If the number wouldn't show on caller id the phone never rings, but doesn't stop people from getting to you if they need to. It's 5 bucks a month, but I am down to 1 message a day instead of 5 hang-up's a day on my answering machine.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Jan-02 AT 01:51 PM (EST)]I hate 'em too, but they are just trying to make a buck too..
Here's a few tips on how to bug them back!
1. Ask to get their number to call THEM back at a more convienent time, and when they refuse, argue over the unfairness of that!
2. Hit on them: Ohh, thats a really nice name! Works BETTER if the telemarketer is of the same sex as you!
3. Don't hang up, they won't either, so I've heard!
Edit: If my dad starts getting telemarketer/spam faxes, all hell will break loose!
