with technology as it is today, that we would be able to enjoy having a phone that isn't barraged by unwanted calls .
Some one could get rich with a solution to this crap. My home is pretty well shielded , but my business is more than 50% of the calls are unwanted .. Try tracking some of the calls , they end up coming from a number generator some where .
I did have one call at home ,caller ID said it was my bank . Told them I would call back later . As it turned out , it was not from my bank..

Other than no phone at all , any suggestions?...
Caller ID? Answering machine? Plus, get over the impulse to pick up the phone no matter what. I've pretty much reached a point where I don't answer the phone at all, unless my wife is on the road or something. I don't even give my friends my cell phone number, because I don't turn the thing on for weeks or even a month at a time.
It's my phone, I choose whether I want to talk, and if it's important they will leave a message. Take control of your life.

My home phone is not listed & only close friends & family have the number.I have instructed those that have the number ,to not give it to anyone without my knowledge . My cell is for outgoing calls only..
The business phone is the one out of control . we normally get calls from the 231 or 616 area codes ,anything else is suspect unless its an out of state insurance co , but caller ID usually show who it is ..
Occasionally , a cell user from out of town needs a repair , different area code also , so I have to be on my toes & I hate it. It's my stinking phone & I'm sick of the inconvenience , its one thing to answer when I'm busy..,for the customers ,but another thing ,to have it be someone using the my phone for their benefit..
I also have call block , & can enter 12 numbers to it , the fake numbers can't be added to the list ..
I tried the "let the machine get it with an explanation " but the customers think you're doing it ,somehow , to screw with them ..
If it's a business phone, and you have good customer service, I think you are obligated to answer. Just part of the job. Someday maybe you will have a receptionist to screen the bugs out.
I had good results with the Do-Not-Call list. But it's not supposed to be used for business.

I agree to a point. I ll bet I'm not the only one that is tired of it, for me its been 31 years of it . time for someone to figure out a way of screening it out ...
A few weeks ago I got a call on my cell phone. the only thing the person said was "hello" then silence. So for the hell of it i decided to google the number. Up came a few sites dedicated for nusence callers. I went to two of the sites, and that number had been reported at leeast a dozen times.
Aparently the call cme from here in Missouri, and most of the complaints were from here, but some of the complaints were from other states.
I have no idea what was to be accomplished from the call, and nothing odd has happened because of it, so I can't figure out why they even bothered.
If you have some time to kill, maybe you can Google some of the numbers, and see if anyone else has reported them.

I have .. the call today goes call is from out of area, phone rings 3 different times ,one right after the other . twice on one line & once on the other . I answer , caller wants me to identify myself , I say "who's calling please ?", he says "Jim" then silence. he then asks if this is my business (AAB) , I say , tell me the reason for the call, ..He hangs up after insinuating he is potential customer , doesn't want to do business with me ,NOW, & hangs up.

I googled his number It comes back from telemarketing co in IL, I'm in Michigan..
I use my cell as part of my job so I'm forced to answer wether I recognize the number or not, if I do answer it and it is a telemarketer I promptly tell him to shove his arm up his own **** then add his number to an App on my phone that black-lists it so I wont recieve it again.
yea i thought it was pretty funny that 2 of the people werea husband and wife team. the wife had an autodialer upstairs on a phone line in her name, and the husband had one in the cellar on a line in his name.
within 3 months time they got hit with $100k in fines, had both auto dialers confiscated, and were told by verizon no more phones in your names.
the big problem that got them busted was that the autodialers were calling the same numbers 20-30 times a day.
I get the same caller twice a day ... Around 9 am and then about 5 pm ... 5 days a week ... I ran it thru a reverse lookup ... I am in Washington State ... It came from Ill ...

What were they doing? Clearly they had to be making some money somehow. I've often wondered how telemarketers made money if nobody ever listens to them. I mean,I don't know of anyone that has ever bought something a telemarketer was selling, but I guess somewhere, somebody does.
I've been on the 'do not call' list for a long time and never get the annoying calls.... from sales people. What we DO get is a never ending stream of people wanting us to contribute to their charity: Sheriff's Memorial, Police memorial, Cancer this, Cancer that, Autism (we try to give to a few of them, but never through the phone), and the list goes on. Now we just don't answer the phone if we don't recognize the number. I understand the need to answer a phone for a business, though. That's your life's blood and you can't ignore it.
