Question bed extender ?

I just bought a factory bed extender for my f150 and I have a quick question for those that have one already. Is it possible to take out the extender with the tailgate closed or do you have to have the tailgate open to get it out. I'm just asking because I spent $270 and I don't want to go out to my truck and find that it was stolen. Thanks in advance

i dont think you can because to put it in you push down and it locks into place then you remove you flip it out and unsnap it then. so you can pull it out without something on it. i just keep it locked into place with the tailgate locked and its been safe so far.

once i couldnt see it, i dont know why but i usually can see the tip of the top bar when im looking at the mirror but i couldnt see it and i kept wanting too pull over to see if it was still there, but then again i kept telling myself its still there. drove worried about half an hour home and ran back there to see it was still safe.

What he said...you need the tailgate down to get it out!

I gotta disagree.... It is possible to remove it with the tailgate up. There is enough clearance to push it down off the posts without flipping it out onto the tailgate. Makes it pretty convenient to use the bed extender with a soft tonneau without having to mess with the tonneau, but I never considered the other side of this before. Anyone got any ideas on how to secure it?

A car can be stolen with an alarm on it too....

Where there is a will, there will be a way....

You need to put some good force on it and get in a very tight spot if the tailgate is locked up! Actually, you might not be able to get the angle and clearence to do that with the tailgate up...but I could be wrong....

dosent it only go on the post one way? so if your pushing it down hard enough the only way it would come off is if its broken off?

I only asked this question because I see alot of them for sale on auction sites without the hardware. So maybe somebody is making some money on stolen extenders.

Bed Extender

The bed extender is perfectly secure so long as it was installed properly. I have a '04 Lariat w/ the extender and noticed the problem after taking it out one day. If the bed extender is installed with the tailgate down and the extender in the outermost position than when it is rotated into the bed it will be un-removable with a locked tailgate. Now if you install the bed extender while the tailgate is up it can be easily removed. The tailgate will only be secure if it has been installed properly and the tailgate is locked.

Bed Extender

I bought one at a garage sale for $50.00. Can one buy the parts to mount it because it came without them. I would have thought it was stolen, but I know the guy who I bought it from and he had a Sport Trac but didn't like it so he traded it off on a new F150 Crew Cab.
