Went out yesterday at -22 deg, started the truck and control center worked fine as it always has. Came back home let truck sit for 2 hours and went to leave, started truck, heater fan came on for about 10 seconds and then the whole control center went dead. Drove to dealer, service mgr came out and looked at it and started testing. 45 mins later I drove off in a loaner while they figure out what went wrong. All power to the unit seems fine so it should work. I think they are replacing the control head. I asked if it not working when it is frigid out and the truck is not warm is normal and he said no. As for the a/c not coming on below +32, that is what defogs my windows so that would be kind of silly to engineer into a vehicle.
Seems we have a common problem emerging. This past weekend wife and I went to the mall, aprox 60 mile trip. Picked up the item we were shoping for and returned to the truck within an hour. Started truck up, A/C/Heat unit "dead",,black screen of death. Turned key off and on several times, while pushing buttons at random,,nothing>>>. During the trip back home, after aprox 30 minutes of driving the unit came alive....Taking the vehicle to dealer this pm for what appears to be rear main seal leak and will add this to my "list" ,,although I realize the reply will be "NPF",,can't fix what ain't broke........(05 F250 SD)
Just picked up my '05 with auto climate control ... can't seem to get it to read in Celcius (up here in Canada eh?). The manual mentions "C" but does not give any clue how to change. Anyone know how?
Greg
Can anyone tell me why the temp control defaults to a/c on? When I hit the auto control the a/c always comes on, even in the dead cold. Seems to me the a/c should be a choice not a default.
It's a completely different vehicle, but my parents just had that problem with their early 90's GMC 1500. I played around with it for a while, with the temperature hovering around 5 degrees F. (visiting Minnesota, from California. Brrr) Turns out to be the engine ground was not too great. My dad is an electrical engineer so we hooked a scope up and replicated the problem. Lot's of noise with a poor ground, surprised the thing even ran. Put a new connector on it and attached to the cast iron block, instead of the aluminum it was attached too. As a bonus it starts better.
Electrical gremlins are the worst, espescially on newer vehicles.
My 05 had somewhat the same problem. it started ok I started to drive and when I went to turn on my wipers, nothing! I also noticed my climate lights were out I wiggled the key and BOOM Everything started to work.
I later found out the ignition switch has 2 acc swiched circuits my key (ignition switch) was not making total contact of the second circuit in the run position.
Muffet, the owner manual will tell you to push the auto button and the defrost button on the same row as the auto button. Hold those two down for a second to switch back and forth beween F and C. Wrench.
