Has Anyone oput there had any problems with their head lamp switch?
I am on the 3rd one on my '93f250 in just over a year.
the first 2 came from Auto Zone, this last one is from the ford dealership.
They keep going out and I will only have headlamps or running lamps but not both....anybody got any ideas?
Does your lighter get power from the light switch? If it does, are you plugging anything into it beside the lighter. I was losing switches because I was using a lap top in the lighter. With the lights on I guess it was too much. Other than that could you have a short of some kind? You might also ask in the electrical forum. Good luck with it.
thanks Trike, I would have never thought that the lighter would draw off the head lamp power....I do run qa few things off the lighter, will have to check it out in the AM but i think that just may solve my problem
Had the same problem with mine. Found out the plug that hooks to the switch was getting bad. Loses a little of the connection, the contacts get so hot it fries everything including the switch.
Get some headlight relays and install them out under the hood. Use the stock wiring to trigger the relays, but draw the headlight current from the battery. Headlights get brighter, amp load on the switch drops to almost nothing.
After the relays, I installed LED bulbs in all my lights, now the biggest draw on my headlight switch is the dash lights which are still stock bulbs.
Autozone or Advance Auto has the ones I installed in my cab lights (194A) and stock marker lights (194A).
They also have 1157R or 3157R LED red light bulbs for the stop turn tail light socket.
The 1157A or 3157A for the front turn signals had to be ordered off the internet because no one local had them.
I was a little different on the back due to my flatbed that has four 4" round stop tail turn signal lights and nine 2.5" round marker lights plus two 4" round backup lights. Got them at the local NAPA and Fleetpride big truck supply houses.
