I just noticed this week that my driver side seat heater isn't working. My guess is that it isn't on it's own fuse so I assume that is somethhing much more costly and involved. Has anyone else had this heater go out, and what should I expect to pay to get it fixed?
I just took mine to the dealer to be looked at and they quoted me $75 to diagnose and worst case scenario to fix it (replace it) was $325. I couldn't swallow that, so I will live with it how it is until I get some time to take a look at it myself as the part was only $135.
In all likelyhood, the heating element is what has failed. You can get the replacement part for $55 from one of the online Ford parts sites. Unfortunately, you will have to pull the upholstery apart to replace it. That's why my driver's side is still dead.
Yeah My *** is cold in the winter. Mine doesn't work either. Rozett, it's just a heating element? I don't even think my switch light goes on. I can have my seat guy take the cover off and put it back on. I really would like to get that fix.
The drivers side switch on my 2004 X was defective. If I accidentally bumped it, during the hot summer months, the heater would turn on and not turn off. Oooo that smokey butt! in the summer. Changed switch from passenger seat, until I could get the new switch from the Dealer. For some odd reason, I could put the passengers switch in the drivers seat, but due to a little plastic tab, the drivers switch would not fit on the passengers side.
If your switch light does not come on, try to switch the switches! Easy fix, but boy it doesn't sound good in the sentence .

The drivers seat heat quit on me a year or so ago while my x was still under warranty and I just had to pay a $100 deductible and the dealer replaced the unit. I was told that they had to get the backrest and seat at the same time and that the element is incorporated into the foam. I know that my seat was like new in regards to support and comfort after they got done with it.
My friends x also has the drivers side heat out but he hasn't spent the money to fix it as his is not in warranty.
Dealer checked mine a while back and told me that it was a relay under the seat...my hunch was heating element...but the swore that they put in a relay and it tested ok after that...relay was about $80 but I didn't have them put it in...figured I could get it at a parts store cheaper than that and not have to pay them labor, or maybe just swap the passenger seat to be sure. That was in the summer and I live in Texas....so I never did get it fixed (the wife drives it, so it's not my butt that freezes...could be a long time till I actually fix it...lol. Good luck, let us know how you resolve it.
85% of the time it is the element....then you have to strip her down...blah,blah,blah
10% of the time it is the module....it take 2 seconds, pull the one out from under the seat that works and try it on the one that doesn't.
I have a schematic but you can't post pics here...anyways it goes power source>switch>module>seat heater/temp sensor>seat heater.
