The other day, my truck got hot and started steaming; i thought it was the thermostat. I replaced the thermostat and that didn't fix it. I'm wondering if it's not the heater core, it's hard to tell but it looks like it's spitting from the heater core feed tube (right side) below the T-stat. I'm not seeing any leaks from the water pump and the pulley isn't squealing or anything. One thing to note, when it got hot and i was limping home, i blasted the heat but wasn't getting hot air out of the vent. This almost leads me to believe that the coolant isn't getting to the heater core tho... any ideas?
Update... I filled the radiator to see if the system is sucking air and the "banjo bolt" for the heater core feed line is spitting water. It was too hot to feel for a crack so i'll have to wait a while.
Ok, the issue is fixed; turned out to be the coolant temperature sensor connector. The tube that seats into the coolant hose was cracked open. The part from the dealer conveniently comes about a 1/2" too long on said tube to install without removing the idler pulley, AC compressor and PS pump. I used a pipe cutter to cut the 1/2" off and it installed no problem, nothing to remove. I drove around plenty long enough to get to temperature, no leaks.
