u-joints

ok i am embarressed to ask this as it seems i should know the answer but i am having a lot of trouble! i even have chris (Ho) stumped as well as myself so i don't feel as bad. i have my 205 in completely and all bolted in...except u-joints. apprently it takes 1310 joints and my 208 took 1330.

how should i go about doing this?

~get u-joints that fit my current configuration.... called a basstard joint (easiest)
~get new flanges (1310) for my driveshafts and re-weld them on (weakest)
~get new flanges for my t-case that upgrades to the 1330 series (if even possible) i know the 208 flanges will slide in but it requires a different oil seal and i don't know if it will work (strongest but prolly most expensive)

any ideas anyone? i am so anxious to get my truck going again i am going insane!

I would start with the U-joint, Get the truck going. Then order the big yokes for the big joints and put them in later.

I would ditch the 1310 crap and go with either 1330 or 1350 stuff.

i would love to as you stated BUT i am at the point now where i am getting ready to just weld the driveshaft straight to the t-case yoke! seriously, i just want a quick fix for now so i can at least pull out of the garage. the later downt the road i will swap out t-case yokes when time and money arten't such an obstacle.

thanx fellas

when time and money allows i will be running 1410....and i will prolly build my own shafts seeing as i can get DOM sch80 for pretty cheap around here

Bwahaha! You're winning the lotto AND gaining immortality? Myself, I'd use the flange off the 208 for now, if it fits the 205 shaft. I don't imagine the oil seal will be a problem. If need be you can use a shim to help keep the seal in place. The basturd joint isn't a terrible idea but I'd imagine it won't be the strongest and may cause some vibration.

Put down the welder and back away before you go getting too booty fab with welding to the yoke. Think about it a little while.

Or you can get a jump joint from your local car quest/napa. Maybe that's the joint you were referring to. If you want, I can price a 1330 205 yoke if the 208 toke doesn't fit. That's what I had to do with the front end of one of my trucks. Or maybe it was the rear end...I had to go from a 1330 to a 1350, I believe.

i found it! i got sick of behind the counter telling me the u-joint won't fit in the truck i am trying to put them in so i took the yokes (one from the spare 205 and one from my 208) to compare dimensions and i found one after 2 hours and a LOT of patience from my friendly Napa personnel (now my personal friends, lol)

for those who are interested and to get it out the conversion u-joint to go from a 1310 to a 1330 (either at t-case, axles, or driveshaft) the part number is 1-0134 and autozone, Napa, and Advance auto all carry them in stock.

i am hopefully going to upgrade yokes here soon, i am gonna do some mucho research on it first and then see what i can do

BTW...the white truck moves again

Yeah thats the way i went Cutts. If you want a cheap upgrade for the yokes find a 3/4/-1 ton truck at the wreckers or someplace and grab the yokes off of it. As that is what i'm doing (grabbing the yokes of the donor 77 i'm using for the sas).

Lightbulb U-joint

Go to a good auto parts store that can get you a conversion type U-joint like (1310-1330),(1310-1350)and so. The key word here is GOOD, That will get you by till you get the yoke you want.
Later Willis

As long as the seal doesn't leak out enough to lose all that fluid in one drive - look at it as a way to "constantly replenish fluids" and never have old gear oil in there. =)
