I need to hook up a LED line under the tailgate. I know if I tie into the tail light the LED will flash with the turn. Where on the truck in the best place to find brake only wire. Thanks for the Help.
That's a toughie. The wires going back to the stop lights are coming from the turn signal assembly all the way back as seperate wires for each side. The only place I know where you can find a brake only wire is the centermounted brake light.
EDIT... I didn't read your post correctly. I had an answer, the wrong one...Disregard.
But, there should be a way to splice in to the wire right at the brake light switch above the brake pedal. If you're not using the trailer brake controler, then the grey pigtail to the right of the steering column behind the fuse panel cover, (below the little cubby hole in the dash), would be a good place to get the connection you need. As for there being a wire already at the rear of the truck. Without a schematic at my disposal, I'm not aware of one.
You might call the local canopy shop. The install a harnes for the third brake light in the canopys. Ask'm where they install that to.

I called a buddy at an accessory shop. There's a little black box on the frame under the drivers door. There's a green wire for accessory brake lighting!
There's also the trailer hitch wires. If you have the 7-pin connector for your hitch you can get the brake only feed off of that.
I'm not sure that the brake feed is energized if there's not a brake controler installed and a return circuit from the brakes.
My Teconsha Voyager won't even light up unless the trailer brake/light cable is hooked to the truck. So I'd figure that there's not an output at the brake pin in the connector if things are disconnected.
And, since we don't know if he's got the tow package and lighting connectors, I figure the best bet is the douhicky box on the frame that is intended for lighting.

Reason: Forgot somethin
I don't know if this'll help you at all, but I found a brake-only wire for when I put on my cap with a 3rd brake light.
I have the camper package, but I think that there is a wire for a brake light on all the Super Duties.
On my truck, it was sticking out of the main tail light harness. There is a main chase of wires that comes out on the dirver's side frame rail at the back of the truck. It turns toward the passenger side. About halfway across near the bumper, there is a series of wires near the trailer connector. Several wires had little tags on mine and were sealed with wax. One had a BRAKE LIGHT label on it. I think it was light green. Other trucks have CHMSL as a label. I'd tap into that, because it's a lot less work.
I can't guarantee you have this wire, because it may be camper package only, but it's worth a try IMO. Good luck!
There will be a light green single wire right at the 'bulk' lighting connectors/left frame rail tapped out of the way/into itself.. Ours even say center high brake light on the ID tag.. Our earlier F's and even the 05's have this same tag..
Thank you guys for all your help. I had a friend say the green wire at the rear of the truck is brake only also. I will look at that first. thanks again you guys are great.
Great info guys.....I was just trying to figure out where to get the brake light wire for my canopy.
Now....is there a power wire already run back there that I can tap into for the canopy dome light?
kh
Nothing 'hot at all times' to the back..
Wouldn't you want 'key off' power for the camper for indepedent lighting from the trucks dome/courtest lighting ect.? I'd run a line from the batt. with a circuit breaker for lighting and a power point or plug for camper accessory use.. This would also eliminate the battery saver circuit protection..

The canopy dome light is under the hood on the driver side. You have to run a wire all the way from the front to the back If I rememver to look tommorrow at the color of the wire i will post the color and maybe even take a picture of where it is at for you. I just had my canopy/camper shell installed 3 weeks ago. The wire they hooked it to is supposed to turn it off if you leave it on too long.
I hooked up my canopy light into the dome lighting circuit off of the rear cargo light wire. I think jasfaa has the better idea with getting it straight off the main feed. The truck's battery saver will in fact cut the light out after a certain amount of time if you get the right wire. If you need something special with it, you're going to need a dedicated line from the battery, I'm afraid. I just needed mine to light up the inside when loading stuff. Whatever you do with running a wire, try to run it down the factory chase or put wrapping around it to avoid chafing.
It's a darn shame Ford doesn't put a dome light feed as well, isn't it? I haven't got my first year survey yet, but that's a suggestion on my list for sure. They did such a good job with that brake light wire, so it seems a shame to forget about the dome light.
I tapped into the 7 pin connector for my reverse beeper, wire was hot, I think only the electric brake hot lead is not active, not the brake light hot lead.

There's also the trailer hitch wires. If you have the 7-pin connector for your hitch you can get the brake only feed off of that.
