Riveting story. Couldn't take my eyes off the page the whole time.
You need to take the "less than" sign out of your text so the rest of the message shows. Like this...

The connector that you are using for the brake light is intended for trailer attachments so naturally the trucks thinks that's what you're doing. Shouldn't cause any problems, but the trailer screen will be the default when the truck thinks there's a trailer behind it.

I tow a lot and having the trailer screen default isn't a big deal because its so easy to scroll through the different screens using the thumb operated controls on the steering wheel. Just my two-cents.

This is in the wrong sub-forum, but the bigger issue is I can't understand what your issue is. Please try to write more details.

one more time,,got a new f150, got after market led light bar for brakes going to mount it where the liscense plate step is,but when i plug it in there is a msg that comes up on the dash that says ,have trailer connected

You can see the led light bar on the rear bumper,i check the plugin under the truck and there is a orange wire that i have never seen before, the flat plug works thru the round plug,, anyone got idea how to trick the computer to not see the trailer,,??

in years past ford has always provided a feed wire for the 3rd brake light on a camper shell.

not much information out there on the 2015's yet, but i'd be shocked if they didn't include it on the new models.

i'd go to my service department and ask them where the feed wire is located for the Center High Mount Stop Lamp (CHMSL). this is the wire you want. you'll have to procure your own plug such that you can disconnect if, if you wish to do so, but using the CHMSL feed wire will activate the light when the brakes are on, and not when the flasher is activated.

and, since you aren't using the trailer plug, you won't have the 'trailer connected' message on your screen.

sorry i can't help you find the location of the feed wire, but the 'net has not caught up to the '15's yet. i could tell you where they have been located in past years, but it might not help much. you'd end up searching for a needle in a stack of needles.

your service department might be your best bet at this point. OR you could try going to a shop that sells and installs toppers (camper shells, caps, whatever it is called in your local vernacular). if they are selling toppers for '15's they should know what you are looking for.

good luck! and welcome to the forum!

ok one more time

here is what is happeing, i do not have a camper shell on the 2015 f150, i had a 2013 ford f150,and on the back bumper i had a led brake lite placed where the step is on the bumper, when i mash on brake pedal the lite would come on no problem plug and play, Now the 2015 when i plug the same led lite in mounted at same place plug it in when i start the truck the msg center i have a trailer which i do not have, was snooping around under the truck and notice that the flat plug gets it power thru the round plug only (1) wire harness, also on the back side of the round plug there is a strange color ( orange) wire i have never seen before on a truck, this could possable be the sensor wire, have not done anything yet to it,also truck does not have brake controller..

Gorden, Mike's advice was spot on. Your current setup is drawing power from the trailer plug, and that's why the truck thinks a trailer is connected.
You SHOULD be pulling power from the CHMSL wire. Find that wire, redo the wiring for the brake light, and your problem will go away.

Good luck.

onmy 2013 f150 i just plug and go it work perfect,or it because the new updates that ford has now,my other truck neverrdid say anything about a trailer and it was equiped with brake control, sio the way i read this i am going to have to run a wire up to the cab where the third brake lite is and connect the led there??

If you have start/stop tehc. that may be the problem. Start/stop doesn't work when you hook up a trailer. A safety issue.

trailer wireing

what is start tech? this should be very simple but ford has done something,my 2013 lariate had brake control, plug led brake lite into flat plug and it work perfect, this 2015 when i plug it into the flat connector on the dash it says i have a trailer connected, there has to be a short cut to the problem if man made it ,it can be fix or broken, the one problem i see is ford is getting there power for the flat plug under the bumper (from the round plug all one unite) i have wired up a lot of trailers before and i know my wires but there is a strange (orange wire in the round connector)// come on guys we can figure this out without having to run a mile of wireing/

Hi Gorden, not everyone reads this forum multiple times a day, so if you are looking for more opinions, it can take a few days for them to show up.

In the mean time, I feel like you need to do a little more reading on that CHMSL wire. You don't have to go all the way to the third brake light on the roof of the cab. Ford has provided an accessory wire for exactly the purpose you are describing. It is NOT part of the trailer wiring.
I understand you are using a wire that seemed to work on your last truck without issues. It appears that you need a new solution on this truck.

It's my opinion that the CHMSL wire is the solution you are looking for.

I'm not an expert on it's location, it may be a little tricky to find,

Good luck brother.
