1995 Ford F150 (204,000 miles). Getting a noise that sounds like a water pump bearing going out. Had a new pump installed and still get the noise. Noise stops when I stop and starts again when I get to around 25 MPH. Any ideas as to the source. I am thinking speedometer. Would I replace the whole unit or just the pinion gear and seal?

I occasionally get a sound like the speedo cable is dry. Changes depending on my speed. Not real loud and only once in a while so I'm waiting for something more to happen. Can't help much more than that.
I am not sure about the F series, but on my 88 mustang I was able to remove the instrument cluster and pull the speedo cable out. I lube it up and put it back in, works great. I don't know if you can do it that way from the tranny side or on an F-series. Might be worth looking into.
