My stock 50 F1 speedometer is causing problems and I need some assistance on pinpointing the problem.
First the needle would not stay steady when running at a steady speed. It would jump about 3 mph back and forth. I took the cable out and greased it with Vaseline it worked for a few days and went to doing it again. This time I greased it with white lithium. It worked for a while but now sometimes the neddle will jump back and forth all the way and some times it will stay pegged out and make a noise until I stop and it will come back to zero.
I am wondering if it is in the speedometer itself. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Mine does that at times. Last time I took the cable out and greased it real good, and did what yours did, so I took it out again and examined it real close. I found several spots where the cable had kinked, so I spent some time trying to straighten them, re-greased the cable and reinstalled it. It was fine for a few days, but then when back to the erratic behavior again. I bought a new cable and casing and before I had a chance to install it, the old one started working smooth again. It's been that way for about two months now.... go figure.
