Need some help installing an aftermarket SUNPRO tach on my 96 Ranger, 2.3l, 4 cyl, 5 speed. This is an electronic distributorless ignition and there-in lies the problem. Most of these tachs connect to the negative side of the coil. This system has two coils and when I do connect I get a reading that is way too low. Have been trying to coneect to the negative sides of both the primary and secondary coils. Neither seem to work. SUNPRO said I need to find the wiring designed for the tach. Not much help. Any of you have experience here? Thanks.

You may have to get an inductive pickup or if you rpm's are about half of expected, try hooking to both coils.

Did you get this figured out yet? Anybody else know?

My freind has a 97 2.3 that he's trying to hook a tach up to. No dice as of yet.

The tach. lead is a Tan/Yellow wire coming off the PCM. That's as much help as i can give

We (myself and the other guy that posted under my name) traced it down to a tan/yellow wire. The PCM is right underneath the hood, and we plan on snagging it right off of there. No clue as to if we'll need adaptors to get an aftermarket tach working. We'll find out soon.
