sunpro tach question...

Hello everyone, i just bought a "sunpro super tach II" and hooked it up to the green wire that is i "hope" the negative side of the ignition coil. (there is only 3 wires) so i get going down the road and it says that all i can get for rpm's is about 2800. i know the ol' 460 can pull more r's than that.... i think i hooked the green wire up to the wrong wire or something because that can't be right, i'm sure at least someone has gone through what i have

btw.... it's a 1984 F-250 XL 4-speed.

if anyone can help, it would be appreciated

sunpro tach question...

There are usually four wires:

Red - ignition on hot wire
Black - ground
Brown - light switch
Green - negative terminal of coil

most companies have wiring instructions and troubleshoting guides on their websites.

sunpro tach question...

Silo, look for a switch on the back of the tach, that you can adjust for 4,6,or 8 cylinders. Make sure it is switched for an 8 cylinder.

When my Sun SuperTach acted up, I sprayed WD-40 around the switch, moved it back and forth a few times, and this fixed it.......

read this thread a bit late, and actualy came across it while looking for the same answers. . .
anyhow here goes.
the wire on the ignition module/coil is the dark green w/yellow stripe for the year you are asking about.
