56 F-Series Horn Button

Has anyone had any luck replacing the plastic insert on a mid fifties F-Series horn button? Horn replacement button replacements are available but include a new reproduction cap. I have good caps, but all the spares I have also broken plastic inserts that connect the horn button to the steering wheel column. New horn replacements are in the $50 range and include both pieces.

I switched out the one in my Mercury horn button. There was 3 or 4 tabs on the cap that are bent around the plastic. I just carefully straightened them out removed the plastic center, replaced the center, and bent the tabs back.
