Well I finally got the Hobart 140 Mig after much debate. I am wondering about buying wire for the gas hook up option. Is some wire better than others or is the stuff at Harbor Freight good enough. Dont mean to ask a stupid question but I just do not know. What wire would be the best to buy or is there a major difference in them?...
I have never bought HF wire so I am not sure who makes it. I have heard of mixed results on it but cant quote it reliably. Do you have a TSC store? They carry Hobart products, all the consumables for that machine. Most guys run 023 and use C25 gas although Co2 can be used too. For light sheet work the mix will be a little better.
I've heard that some of the off brand wires don't arc real well, and don't givea good looking weld. I always thought wire was wire, but I've been sticking to hobart or lincoln wire. I think it's called ER-70S or something along those lines. TSC has it like mentioned, I've also seen it at BLowes/Home Depot.

The ER-70-S is the American Welding Society number for the wire. Almost all the common mig wires are this. Its kind of like saying 5W-30 or 10W-40, it might be Castrol or Texaco but they are classed the same.
