Ok I just got my Hobart 140 Mig welder. I am wondering the cheapest place to buy good wire, tips and a gas bottle. It has a Miller gun on it and most likely alot of other Miller parts. Is Miller wire ok , having a little trouble finding Hobart wire to use I want good stuff.. Is there anywhere online reasonably priced...
If you dont have a local welding store in town try a metal store. As for the brand of wire in my experience as long as you get the right size wire and it is copper coated for rust prevention you shouldnt have any trouble with any brand of wire. Besides miller, hobart, esab they dont make the welding wire its made for them kind of like tires.
C25 tanks you need to call around in your local area. My tank i bought from the local welding store they take care of all hydrotestings and visual testing without backcharging me for them i empty my tank give it to them and they give me another tank for the cost of just the gas. a sweet deal. Visuals (every year) and Hydrotesting (every 5 years) gets very expensive
Tractor Supply Stores carry Weld-it, which is Hobart. They have everything for the machine you have. You can get gas bottles there but I would look at welding supply stores first. As far as I know Miller doesnt make any consumables, wire, rods, etc, thats Hobarts thing They are a division of the same parent company. Lincoln, Hobart, Esab, Makay, they are all good. Any ER706-S wire would be good (this number is like 10W-40 oil, same type of oil, same SAE specs, just different companies). Lincolns part number is L56.
Be sure you look for an antispatter sprayon call "Black Majic" ....super stuff for keeping the tip clear. Better get a whole bag of those tips, I hate it when I plug my last one in the middle of somethin. a finger drill with the little assortment of bits makes a perfect tip cleaner. Hobart wire always seems to be a little cleaner than the others. You'll get that wire residue build up in the liner after a whole bunch of spools and I have had alot less of that problem with the Hobart stuff. Get some of those little clip on wire cleaners too ...they help with that problem as well. They clip over the wire right in front of your lead in guide. Cut out a mat from a heavy mud flap and fit it to the top of your welder ( thats where everything else gets piled later ) ( saves the cabinet & keeps stuff from rolling off). Find an old paring or steak knife in the kitchen & put it on the welder, thats perfect for digging spatter out of the nozzle
Theres a few things i've found over the years, Have fun with your welder. Mine is a Hobart Beta MIG 250 and I usually run the ER70S-6 wire (.035) with mixed gas (25/75). Its a mix of Argon and C02 under high pressure rather than liquid C02. Little more expesive but it makes for a nice looking and clear weld bead. If your doin some body work check out a small spool of L-tech easygrind. Its expensinve (note that I said small spool), but a very good auto body wire.
