Tire pressure setting - would like input

Hey all - quick question re: tire pressure, and I couldnt find the info in a search. After a belt blow out and a couple of plugs, I had to give up my Goodyear AT\S 305's, and I've switched to Bridgestone Dueler Revo 285's.
I have a 350, CC short bed - the bed is usually misc tools (I'm in construction), but I am quite often towing a trailer with a uniloader, a large dump trailer, or one of our enclosed construction trailers. That being said, the manual states 50PSI up front, and 80PSI in rear. What does everyone run their tires at, and considering my circumstances, what would you suggest. I've just never been able to get a good feel for what would be best. Many thanks to all....

Since you are loaded all the time I would run what the tires state as max pressure, don't go off the door sticker, thats for stock tires, if you have a diesel I would really want those fronts maxed out. The max on my Nitto's is 65psi, I don't pull much and my truck is pretty light, I run the fronts at 62psi and the rears at 40psi, gives a good ride and keeps the wear the same. If I was pulling a heavy trailer I would have those rears to 62psi

Tire Pressure

I was running 50 front 70 rear on my 2003 F250SD. Terrible ride. My local tire dealer pulled out his book which rates ALL tires and loads. He recommended 35-40psi empty and increase to 50 all around if you are pulling or carrying heavy weights. All good tire shops will have this manual. PSI rates on vehicles I believe are government legislated. Just got a new 2005 F350PSD LB Crew dually. He recommended 35-40 around town. Truck rides like a Lincoln.

i have bfg at's in 285/75-16 and ran them at 60psi unloaded, after awhile i noticed the tires where wearing more in the middle(overinflated) so i set the fronts at 50 and the rears at 45 and they seem to be wearing more evenly now

About the same here. 02 5.4 with 285 BFG's with at least a 1000Lbs in back everyday, 50lbs upfront is a bit much as far as the wear pattern after 32K, 45lbs is too low as it doesn't handle well, somewhere in the middle I think? The rears with the load wear well at 50. Note these are load range D tires. Load range E Steelex that came on the truck ran fine at 58Lbs. trimman

I have 285/75/16. I have both fronts and backs at 45psi. They are wearing evenly. I don't carry anything in the bed.

I run Bridgestone Revo 285-75-16's on my 2004 F250 CC FX-4 and I run 65# rear and 60# front when pulling my loaded 16 ft. trailer. Whem empty, I run 55# all around and I am having good tire life so far (20k mi.). Remember the door sticker is for 10 ply load range E tires and your Revo's are 8 ply load range D tires. Therefore, 65# would be max I would use. Good luck!

Standard air pressure test for car/truck tires is to run a chalk line across the tread then drive forward a bit. Check tread and see how the chalk is wearing.

If the chalk line is worn evenly then you're just right. Worn more in the middle is a sign of over inflation, worn more on the edges and you're under inflated.

I've got the 285/75-16 BFG A/Ts.

I'm generally run 50psi all the way around empty. In the snow and cold I drop the rears to 45psi. I'll go to 60-65psi (max.) when loaded.

So far I've got very even wear, and I should get close to 60,000 miles out of them before they're toast. That's pretty darn good as far as I'm concerned given my miles on gravel and the weight of the truck.

As usual, excellent response, and great input. I beleive I'll be dropping my PSI down a tad as is appears the avg is around the mid 50's, and see how things run. Many thanks to all!
