its a 351M in a 77 f-150. It ran before, even on the gas that was a few years old. Recently I had to move it out ofthe shop and I had it running and then when I stepped on the gas it coughed and died. I triedto start it agan but it wouldnt go, so I figured it was out of gass, so I got some new gas, it started once but did the same thing when I stepped on the gas. could it be the fuel pump? cuz to start ityou always had to pump the gas alot before starting
Try taking the air cleaner off and looking down the carb. Move the linkage and see if gas squirts. You might need to rebuild the carb. Take the top off the carb if it doesn't squirt out and see if the bowl has gas in it. Do you have any vacuum leaks? Does the choke work? Gas goes bad pretty quick. Use Sta-Bil if it is going to sit.
I poured soem gas down the carb and it would fire and stay running as long as I had my foot on the gas..but once I let off it would crap out and die..abnd wouldnt start back up unless I poured more down the carb. on time it did fire on its own but I had to have the gas pedal in liek the right place for it to start firing and start up..around half throttle...im thinking fuel filster first off..but if that doesnt cure it then I dont know?
ha well...I took the fuel filter off and it wasnt plugged up and the pump works..so I was putting the fileterf back in and I turned it a turn to far and it snapped off...so Im gonna try the carb off teh 400 that works fine..but my dad also sdaid that it might not start becasue the booster is off and the plug hat goes to it is jsut sittign free and casuing it to lose vacum...so it might not start without gas downthe carb becasue its a weak motor right now.....so when I put theo ther carb on ther I will plug that hole and see what happens
