Hello to everyone on the bb, I have a 2000 ranger 3.0 v6 and since it got cold this year it has been slow cranking and today it barely cranks and then starts a clicking noise. the battery was pretty corroded and when I cleaned it, it got a little better but still makes the clicking noise. would this just be a battery problem or would it be a solenoid or altenator prob. also a few months ago the engine light came on and the obd2 diagnosed it as an egr valve that I have never replaced, this wouldn't have anything to do with it would it and how will I know when the egr needs seriously replaced?
Thanks for any help with these problems as being without my truck is like being without my right leg......
Have you tried charging the battery? Start there. I assume you've taken off and cleaned all the battery connections and the connections to the starter. If it still does the same thing after charging the battery, pull the alternator and bring to an autoparts store to have it checked.
The EGR issue is not related to the starting issue. What code did you get? Often times it's just the EGR sensor (DPFE) that needs replacing, not the valve.
did clean the connections, seemed to help a little, i'll pull the battery tomorrow and go get it charged, hopefully that'll do it if not i'll try the alt, can you still jump it and disconnect the battery to see if its the alt like in the old days? I'll try it all tomorrow though and let you know the outcome I appreciate the help! I hate workin on newer cars especially when I still owe 8grand on them.LOL Cant remember what code I got on the egr issue but the parts store said it was an egr problem I'll get it checked again when I get it runnin and find out the code.
thanx again wib714
p.s. I think this is a really cool bulletin board, and hopefully I will be able to use it more soon for things other than trouble with my truck.........
