Well, I requested the build information for my truck (thanks to finding the e-mail address on this site), and the letter came back yesterday with all of the pertinent information. It looks to be pretty accurate, and goes along with what I already thought and knew from the tags. The one thing I am unsure of, is that it states this truck received Explorere Package "B". I have heard of different Ranger trim levels, so looking for some info. regarding them. The truck has been re-painted (sometime in it's liftetime) Maroon (and that's what color it is supposed to be BTW), but no evidence of any stripe package. It does not have a deluxe interior, A/C, TW, or CC. It has a "Ranger" hood emblem still on it, and received the skinny aluminum body trim - not the stuff with the black rubber insert. So, anyway - was curious what the Ranger package "B" was supposed to contain originally, so I can see what I may be missing. Regardless, I have a Tilt column for it, intermitent wipers, a Sport Wheel, complete factory A/C just waiting - and it's all going into this truck this winter/spring. It's a 78' F150 Super cab 4x4 by the way.
Well, I was fortunate enough to have bought a 78' F150 2wd a few months back. It was rotten body-wise, but did run and drive decent. This truck had a nice deluxe interior, TW, Intermittent wires, factory A/C and the same engine as the supercab - 351M. I just this week, completed parting it out. I have saved everything - the radiator core support, complete heater box assembly, vacuum lines, metal dash (with vents), all duct work, temperature control assy, complete (and uncut) wiring harness, engine with all brackets, pulleys, the compressor, etc, etc. I have everything I need, with lot's of digital photos, notes and even some templates with measurements accompanying the photos. I have to find a new cab, there is no question of that. Mine is rotted too bad in the floors, corners, roof, etc. My only concern right now, is finding a solid supercab. If it is equipped with factory air, that'd be great. If not, I have everything for it and will strip it and make the necessary cuts to install the A/C stuff. I have also on hand, as a "new" daily driver, a 78' Bronco also equipped with a 351M and factory A/C. It has a rotten body as well (perfect for the winter), but runs and drives and stops good enough. So, for A/C - I should be covered one way or the other. Finding a solid cab is my only concern at this point...........
time for a west-coast/southwest vacation. self service wrecking yards have hundreds of good rust free cabs in abundance. I got a complete crewcab a month ago with seats etc. for $90.00.
another way to convert to air is to just unbolt the entire metal part of the dash from the truck you got the ducts and stuff from and paint it your color. this also makes it easier to remove the AC components from the donor truck too!
it was just a complete cab, I didnt need a shortbed frame. but cab with seats, doors, panels glass wiring etc, was a gret deal. or at least I thought so.
