Since my last post had so many replies to it I thought I would try another. mMabey this time one of you guys would post up some ****ing awnser this time. My ? is how well geared are c4s for highway use I'm looking into alot of different options and a c4 could be one of them so I am wondering anyone have one hooked up to a 5.0 and whats it like driving on the highway?
You've posted this in the wrong forum. We have a transmission forum for this question...
Also, this is a famly friendly site, please use appropriate language. Please read our forum guidelines, the link is in my signature.
All of Fords OD'd automatics have a similar OD ratio, either one of the automatics with OD will be fine on the highway...this is an akward question which is probably why you havn't recieved an answer.
The C4 is 3-speed non overdrive transmission I thought. Ideal where high horsepower to the wheels is imperitive. If you want highway manners, get an AOD. They don't suck up too much more.
Millions have been hooked to sixes, 289s and 302s. The drive just fine.
Lower diff ratios will result in quicker acceleration, but the lack of an od will leave you thrumming along on cruise.
With a 2.79 or 3.0 diff and 28 inch tires, you have a modest combo of accel and econo as long as you take it easy. That's the way most cars were geared in the 60's. (give or take the 3.25 here and there and excluding the "drive around in 1st" feel of a 3.91 or 4.11)
What do you want to do with your 5.0?
Check this web site out, should be info. You will hear folks talk about auto trannies sucking fuel. This is the guy with a theory about that.
You can keep them all guessing with a TH400 behind your 5.0
