Besides the little spring under the gas pedal that keeps it from flopping around, do our trucks utilize any other spring(s) that return the pedal to the upright position when no throttle is applied? If so, where is it?
Or is that solely accomplished by the throttle return springs on the carb itself?
it should have a big spring that goes to the linkage back to the intake, and thats the only spring it should have besides the ones on the carb it self.
yeah on the carb is all you need, some people run two springs, i just got a couple from the local hardware store and used the one that felt best when i pressed the pedal, and was strong enough to last.......
Off the subject but not, does anyone else find that the pedal is a little uncomfortable on the ankle after a few hour's of driving or am I just getting old?
your probly just getting old but a surefire way of fixing that problem would be Cruise Control!! My pedal seems to be just right, i can get to my desired speed and just barely let off the gas and it holds just right not to mention it allows my vacume to come up about 3 or 4 # better gas mileage

Has anyone run into the problem where putting the Edelbrock 4bbl intake and holley on the 351M/400 where the throttle cable is now too short by a couple inches? I mean, yes it all connects, but the pedal in the cab is now a couple inches farther off the floor than before to compensate for the shorter cable!
Should I just "educate" the existing pedal arm a couple inches or is there a replacement cable extended type of thing I can use?
Yes, it is a flexible steel cable with the clip for the carb ball and a short can shaped end on the pedal arm. I suppose I could use the old Coat Hanger trick and custom make a rod between the two and get it just the length I like, but that is so "ghetto"...
The cable is non adjustable, the metal rod is adjustable. I also ran into the same problem with my F250 when I did the 429 conversion with the stealth intake. The intake is taller than the factory intake which in turn lifted the gas pedal off the floor at a very uncomfortable angle. It is like I need to cut and weld a longer piece in the rod for the linkage from the firewall to the cable I think what I am going to do is pull off the stealth intake and order an edelbrock.
Lengthening the top of the pedal rod will only decrease you foot pedal travel to the floor. I really don't want to lengthen mine, but would consider just "bending" it closer to the carb to get the 2 inches back.
I wonder if Lokar or someone else has a custom cable for this type of thing.
It I could make my own flexible cable, we wouldn't be having this conversation!
I'm still leaning towards "educating" the pedal rod closer to the carb. I checked Lokar and their cables are in 12" increments for the custom ones. I wonder if one of the bike shops around could take my ends off and use one of those 10-speed type cables to make a custom length one. Otherwise I'm just fresh out of ideas.
