I hit the same issue with the cable being too short after adding a spacer under the carb. I also had issues with the kickdown rod being too short. I used the Lokar cables for both, including their bracket and spring set-up. Looks great, works great. The springs they provide are nice and tight.
For under $200 for everything why bother with bending cutting and welding?
It's a 30 minute install unless you cut the cable too short. I found that Mtn bike shifter cables work as perfect replacements.
Clothes hangers? You scare me when you talk like that.
Here's what the pedal assembly looks like with the rod. I got this on ebay and the rod was still too short.
It I could make my own flexible cable, we wouldn't be having this conversation!
I'm still leaning towards "educating" the pedal rod closer to the carb. I checked Lokar and their cables are in 12" increments for the custom ones. I wonder if one of the bike shops around could take my ends off and use one of those 10-speed type cables to make a custom length one. Otherwise I'm just fresh out of ideas.
Cheers!
Lokar cables are cut to fit. The inner cable is essentially a bike cable, but you need their cable ends minimally, and depending how you run it, you main need to use the exterieor cable housing too.
if your gonna go with a cable that looks like bicycle cables, why spent alot of money on it when u can go to any lawnmower service shop and buy the same cable in various lengths for pennies on the dollar, cut one to fit and put a clamp down end on it, ive done this many times on smaller aplications, but IMHO a cable is a cable and an accelerator cable doesnt have to hold a 1000lbs or anything, just hold up to a lead foot!!just my 2 cents.....
Whatever works and is safe is cool with me. Clothes hangers are not a safe option in my opinion.
The nice part about Lokar is I make a phone call and its on my door in a few days from Summit. I only get a couple of hours per weekend to tool around on the truck, driving around to shops looking for parts that might work cuts into that time.

yeah on the carb is all you need, some people run two springs, i just got a couple from the local hardware store and used the one that felt best when i pressed the pedal, and was strong enough to last.......
That's in case one spring goes faulty & breaks, that leaves still one more to throttle down ...Safety reasons & a good one
